I find myself not skipping it any more. I found myself able to get past "the warble," because it's truly moving. I used to profess a hatred for opera, but now in my early 40's I'm letting it play and letting it take me into the moment.

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

You're right, but don't be so vulgar about it. It is like rating a crude crayon drawing produced by an unskilled child against a master piece by Leonardo Da Vinci. The parents may value the works of their child more, but when it comes to which is superior, it is no contest, Da Vinci draws with a thousand times as much proficiency and that is as good as fact. In music it is the same, opera wins hands down.

What people do when they try to put the two side by side as equals is to confess to their weak taste and jealously. In some places the boundaries may blur but this is not one of those.

Re: Paleo Recipe: Meat Sauce over Spaghetti Squash

I eat various fruits and vegetables sauces.
But I don't eat meat sauce, because I don't like its taste.
I only use it in burger.

Re: Some Views of Salzburg…

These photos are amazing. I'll be glad to. Basically you start by having mushrooms sauté in the olive oil,
Don't add wine, and then add all the other ingredients. Put in extra fennel seeds as they mimic the taste of sausage and add an extra pinch of crushed red pepper.
You still want to cook it at least a few hours to get the flavor to come out!
It's really important to get good tomatoes! It's all about the tomatoes...use an imported paremesan to top. When doing simple Italian peasant cooking it's vital to use high quality ingredients. Makes all the difference.
You might drizzle olive oil over the top before serving! How do you add protein?
I did use vegetarian sausage on the side. Adding protein powders etc. Really changes the taste! First, she is NOT an opera singer. She said it herself in many of her interviews. She is a classical crossover singer and has no desire to become an opera singer. She dream is to be in Hollywood side or something. It is her dream. She is not even pushed by her parents. They only in support mode and help her dream come true. She want it herself. For the last 2 years, she did all the video promotion herself since she was 8 in Youtube, was sending tape to music producers include David Foster. She did all the interviews herself without her parents even in the picture. Jackie know what she want and she want it now.

Her talent is a miracle and NOT from extensive training.

This music world is ugly and there is no 2 chance. Simon Cowell is not going to wait 10 years nor anyone will. She will need the start her moment NOW and worry about later. With multimillion on her pocket by the time she reach 18, she can turn to acting if indeed she mess up her vocal cord.

About successful career. If she hit platinum and likely she will with her "O Holy Night" Christmas album, she is successful even if it is novelty since she already make more money then most classical crossover singers or even opera singers in their entire life. How bad can it be? She did all this by the age of 10. Are you call this bad?

Reality, I think she will have a 40 to 50+ career.

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

nice article by the way

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

lol its a load of crap real music is classical music there is no intellegence in this new shit, when these composers made these pieces of music it was all music, now you got these ignorant basterds just out for cash making songs that are catchy like obviously one cant turn there head away when everyone else in society is a bloody lunatic listening to garbage, is ignorance, "I like what i like" well fuck you you like garbage, your mind is polluted with garbage just as all of society, you would think music would advace as technology is, but its going nowhere its not even music its noise pollution, so if you want real music, that is creative, intellegent, uses musical background of some sort, then you should be listening to obvi classical music which is supreme, music of today is bullshit, you can make fucking #1 hit in the world by using a computer produce some beats and get some attractive or wierd person to be the soposive artist (even though they cant sing or if they can doesnt matter), and layer shit with a fucking synthesiser and what not and presto there you go soposive "music" of today. please dont give me this shit you ignorant people, all conditioned by stupidity please pick up a book or something valuable to interest your life living in the most darkest time of human kind. ......real music = classical music- mozart-tchaicosky-haydn-beethoven..ect..
plus---led zeppelin, pink floyd, the beatles, mettalica, bob marley, others...ok like listen to the instrumentals made with no machine or gay beats, listen to the message and admire the instrumental part like its beatiful. there you go....

Re: America’s Got Talent and So Does Jackie Evancho!

I think people are just hoping she will be advised smartly and be able to pace a successful career. I agree. But this is why, I think it is so: It is independent. Unlike pop music, film music, etc. it does not require a specific show, performer, or anything else to be at its best. Not only that, but as pure music, it can actually improve by altering those things and more.

Re: Red or Green?

Great story!!

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

I think the Met is trying that with their new Ring Cycle ;-) haha

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

Popularity is natural selection, for good or for bad. In the case of classical, history has spoken, in the case of current pop and classical, time will tell. What is most interesting is that the audience is always the most important part of any programming or music event, and often left to habits, tradition, whims and crap. Regardless of genre. Artists and producers should always do their research before hand. Yes, somethings pop, literally, but they are of the zeitgeist, like Lady Gaga. My choice would be to build an Opera around Lady Gaga and Sondra.

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

Thank you for the article! I am a young opera singer and am a strong supporter of both classical and pop genres (I love the work of Sondra Radvanovsky and Lady Gaga equally). What ideas might other readers have on how we might bridge the gaps between the two genres and how a classical musician, like myself, might, in the future, bring more classically influenced music to the pop-loving masses?

Re: Pop vs. Classical – A Necessary Discussion

Awesome article or I should I say thesis! I think the problem starts with the "vs." Commercially speaking, Classical doesn't stand a chance in today's music market but it has nothing to do with its worth. Artists who care should be proactive and reinvent the way we present this amazing music to the masses and that doesn't start with shunning all things non-classical.

Re: Bass-ically Speaking

Fascinating interview.
